I work in advertising, but try not to make it my life. I love writing, art and design - and focus my time on these when I'm not working or hanging out with my family.
A clean summer ride into headphone sweetness. Kick back with a cold one and enjoy.
Diplo strikes again, this time as a director. Favela (Baile Funk here in America) mixes electronica, Miami Bass & Brazilian rhythm + slang.
While not for everyone, I think the Brazilian influence on music, fashion, etc. will continue to push it's way out to the world, growing stronger. A country rich in culture blending, beauty, an economy on the rise, a full embrace of open source technology and a strong knack to dance their asses off is sure to be a full force for a long time to come.
The Purveyor of Cool (www.thepurveyorofcool.com) - AKA J. Buie - posted this gem of a video for word association + storytelling, produced by NPR & Radiolab.
I take things like this as a reminder: No matter how "cool" technology becomes, nothing beats the art of storytelling. Each edited down to just a few seconds piece could serve as a driver to a bigger framework of a greater tale.
I love the Australian take on the world of art & design. They seem to pull from Asia & the States, but still maintain a sense of themselves as they process everything.
Looks like they're hosting a conference/market/workshops from July 31 until the 15th of August in Sydney. If you're lucky enough to get there, looks like a pretty cool event.
Nice collection that's constantly updated with work found on the streets of Brooklyn. Some well known names & some not so well known. Either way, inspiring.
Anyone want to create a story? A Box Life allows you to track where your box has been, once you've reused it. I think it would be cool to start a mystery box tour - send me your name & address, I'll send you a box with an item - I'm thinking something that you can mark your name/picture/whatever in to document your time with the box. You then send it to someone else, etc. Eventually, the box would need to make it's way home, packed with materials from its trip around the country/world. You don't have to add anything fancy, some writing, a feather(?), a trinket that best represents you or where you're from. Seriously, hit me up if you're interested.

I love that this is happening, but it's kind of sad that we even have to "take back" something that should be ours anyways.
Do yourself a favor and put this album on heavy Summer rotation.
Anyone that loves 80's music probably has come across Peter Saville's work. Some of his best designs were done for Factory Records, home of Joy Division, New Order & Happy Mondays, etc. He's curated the latest issue of Arkitip, which makes it guaranteed to be full of his geometric sensibilities
I'm really loving Flipboard for my iPad. It pulls feeds from various sources, even Twitter & Facebook, and turns them into a "magazine" style reader. Quick, easy and a great resource for the pop culture junky that the iPad was created for.
One downside - due to overwhelming response, my Twitter + Facebook feeds were not able to be pulled in. Looks like they're trying to fix it now.
